Free Pokies NZ – Play Demo Games
Updated
Choose a free pokie below and play with virtual credits. These demos open the game provider’s anonymous fun mode, without a casino login or deposit. Demo winnings have no cash value and cannot be withdrawn.
Use free play to learn the controls, read a paytable or explore a game’s features. Each game loads only when you choose it, keeping the page lighter when you are just browsing.

How to play a demo
- Choose a game and press its free-demo button.
- Wait for the provider’s game files to load. The game should show a fun or virtual balance.
- Open the help or paytable to read the game’s rules and stake controls.
- Play using the virtual balance. This is practice credit, not withdrawable money.
- Close the game before choosing another. The page runs one embedded demo at a time.
If the embedded game is difficult to use on your device, choose the separate-tab link. Loading a game there gives it more screen space while keeping the same demo-mode settings.
Free play and free-spin bonuses are different
A demo is a game session with virtual credits. It does not require a qualifying deposit, and its balance cannot be cashed out. A free-spin promotion or no deposit chip belongs to a casino account and has its own eligibility, wagering, expiry and withdrawal conditions.
If you are looking for those promotions, use our free spins guide and no deposit guide. The bonus hub explains the main offer types. Do not confuse a demo balance with a casino bonus or assume that a simulated win is money you can claim.
What you can learn from a free pokie
Free play is useful for understanding the interface. Check how the total stake is calculated, where the game rules appear and what the symbols do. A coin size or line bet can be only one component of the displayed total.
Use the help screen to understand wilds, scatters, feature triggers and any optional settings. Games with similar themes can use different rules. A demo also lets you check whether the controls are comfortable on your screen before considering any separate real-money account.
Practice does not remove the house edge or create a way to predict random outcomes. A successful demo session is not evidence that the next session will pay, and a long losing run does not make a win due. Free games should be treated as entertainment and a way to read the rules in context.
RTP and virtual balances
Return to player describes long-run game mathematics, not a guaranteed repayment for a session. Do not calculate a personal cash return from a few demo spins. The exact version, configuration and rules matter when comparing game information.
Our RTP calculator guide explains the calculation, and the pokies glossary covers common terms. A virtual balance resetting between anonymous sessions does not represent a deposit, withdrawal or real-money account history.
Playing free pokies on mobile
The games use the provider’s HTML5 launcher. A current browser and a stable connection help, but support still depends on the individual game and device. Try landscape orientation if the reels and controls are cramped, or open the demo in a separate tab.
See our mobile pokies hub and the Android, iPhone and iPad guides for device considerations. A larger or faster device changes the display and responsiveness, not the odds of a game.
If a demo does not load
Allow time for the first download of the game’s graphics. If the loader does not finish, close the player and try the direct demo link. Check your connection and supported browser updates. Provider maintenance, network restrictions or device compatibility can prevent a game from opening.
The demo links on this page are configured for anonymous fun play. You do not need to enter a payment to use them. If you choose to visit a real-money casino separately, that is a different service with an account and its own terms.
Explore the casino reviews
For information about separate casino accounts and their published offers, compare Fair Go, Ozwin, Ripper Casino and Uptown Pokies through the casino reviews hub. The banking guide explains payment considerations.
Keep play within a time limit even when it uses virtual credit. If gambling becomes difficult to manage, our responsible gambling guide provides tools and support.
Free pokies FAQs
Can I play these pokies without depositing?
Yes. These links launch the provider’s anonymous demo mode with a virtual fun balance. No real money is deposited, wagered or paid out in these demos.
Do I need a casino account to open these demos?
The demos embedded on this page use the provider’s anonymous-session launcher, so no casino login is required. Real-money casino accounts are separate.
Can I withdraw demo winnings?
No. The fun balance and demo winnings are virtual credits with no cash value. They cannot be withdrawn or transferred to a real-money balance.
Are demo games the same as a no deposit bonus?
No. Demo play uses virtual credits. A no deposit promotion is casino bonus credit governed by eligibility, wagering and withdrawal rules. Use the separate bonus guides to compare those offers.
Will practising a demo improve my odds?
A demo can teach the controls and rules, but it does not create a winning strategy or make a later spin more likely to win. Demo results do not predict a real-money session.
Can I use these demos on my phone or tablet?
The provider uses an HTML5 game launcher. Compatibility depends on the game, browser and device. Rotate the screen if needed and use the separate-tab link if the embedded view is awkward.
Why does a demo take time to load?
Game graphics and other files are downloaded from the provider when you press Play free demo. Loading time depends on the game, connection and provider availability. Only one embedded game is loaded at a time on this page.
What happens when I close a demo?
Closing a game removes its embedded player from this page. A new anonymous session may reset the virtual balance, and demo progress is not a real-money account record.
Demo mode uses play-money credits. No cash prizes or withdrawals. Games are supplied by RTG’s external demo service; availability can change.
